Vampire Weekend are back this week with another video release for the song “Giving Up The Gun”, off their newest record, Contra. Produced and directed by The Malloys, the working name for brothers Emmett and Brandon Malloy, the video features high style and humor colliding on the tennis court with guest appearances from The Jonas Brother, RZA, and Lil John.
Xiu Xiu‘s new album on Kill Rock Stars, “Gray Death”, continues to distinguish Jaime Stewart as a consumate artist. The album features a line-up change with former Xiu Xiu-gal member Caralee McElroy leaving to join Wesely Eisold’s project, Cold Cave, and Xiu Xiu adding member Angela Seo, who is featured in the first two videos off the new album. Maybe you like a little smothering, light choking, a slap or two?
Also up this week, Brooklyn sextet Golden Triangle have released their first LP for Hardly Art, Double Jointer, and we have the video for the creepy goth-wave track, “Neon Noose”! The bands live shows feel like stepping into some roadhouse full of crazed acid heads, and the video continues that vibe with plenty of druggy fur pettin’ goin’ on!
And to finish the week…Sigur Ros singer and guitarist Jon Por Birgisson, or Jonsi, will be releasing his first solo album, Go, in April. Until then, “Go Do”!
Also, The Morning Benders have put together a very fine, sun-shiney new album, Big Echo, and it’s full of Phil Spector inspired recording techniques giving it it’s massive lushness. This week you can check out The Morning Benders and a bunch of their good friends, The Echo Chamber Orchestra, in this live session video for the song “Excuses” recorded at Different Fur Studio in San Francisco. Complete with a little interview!
German electronic music producer and DJ Pantha Du Prince released his third album, Black Noise, this January on Rough Trade, and it includes collaborations with Panda Bear of Animal Collective and Tyler Pope of !!! and LCD Sounsystem. The album, inspired by a trip to the Swiss Alps, continues the artists heady explorations of all things minimalist and techno, this time adding even more blissed out, melt into the floor nature vibes! The video for “Stick To My Side” is also quite tree huggy.
