Oh good, now every time I eat a mango I will think of Animal Collective‘s new video for the song “Applesauce”! Meant to be watched in total darkness, the new video features a close-up of fashion model Lindsey Wixson, known for her “”bee-stung lips”, “rosebud pout”, and gapped front teeth”, eating a mango, while the flashing colors of Paul Sharits‘ 1968 short film “N:O:T:H:I:N:G” plays in the background. Experimental film god Stan Brakhage once called “N:O:T:H:I:N:G”, “…one of the most beautiful films I’ve seen”, and director Gaspar Noé‘s inclusion of the film in this music video is a brilliant send-up of Sharit’s art, and a great stroke of recontextualization. Animal Collective hits the road this spring, so check the dates delow!
