Søren Løkke Juul‘s Indians project began as a simple way to answer his creative urges, recording a bunch of demos and posting them to the internet; but what began as an artistic outlet, has quickly turned into a full-time gig! Having only played his first live show in his hometown of Copenhagen last February, Juul would go on to self-release a debut single that April, before heading out for tours across Europe and the States with artists like Bear In Heaven, Lower Dens, Retribution Gospel Choir, and Beirut. Indians signed with 4AD this past September, and the label will release the artist’s debut LP, Somewhere Else, tomorrow January 28th. Fan’s of Seattle musician Mike Hadreas’ solo project Perfume Genius will find a kindred spirit in Juul, and as the track “I Am Haunted” demonstrates, each artist is musically adept at transcribing difficult emotional territory. The troubling video for the track, directed by Winston H. Case, utilizes a 360-degree panorama view of a bare-bones room to progressively reveal the artist suffering…torture, retribution, the visual equivalent of a “difficult divorce”. It’s hard to know, but it definitely stings…
