Acteurs is the Chicago duo Jeremy Lemos and Brian Case, and this month they have released a very intriguing, self-titled mini-album for the British label Public Information. Lemos is a highly accomplished recording engineer and musician with a most impressive resume of avant audio work, while Case’s band Disappears have turned in three stellar, philosophically rigorous LPs for Kranky. As a duo they explore minimal, stark landscapes of industrial electronics and cryptic techno. The pair’s long history of working with avant music seeps thru in all kinds of interesting ways creating/recreating that fertile interzone where punk and experimental electronics once collided back in the 70’s. Not to say that the music isn’t progressive or fiercely experimental in it’s own right, it just bears echos of that history!
