Burger Records will be reissuing a deluxe, vinyl edition of King Tuff‘s Vermont teen classic, Was Dead, on April 30th. Recorded back in 2006 at a “giant dirty ballroom called Vegetable Street”, in his hometown of Brattleboro, Vermont, Tuff tells us, “It’s always seemed as though Was Dead kinda came outta nowhere. Even for me, I don’t remember writing the songs, and I barely remember recording them. I do know that they came from the purest part of my heart, and they were made with a mischievous little smile on my face.” As the track “Sun Medallion” reveals, the album is a reflection of simpler times, “chill times” as the King would have it, dreaming in the graveyard, and cruising the streets in his mean green chevrolet. In the must-read write-up published with the song, Mr. Tuff explains, “I wanted Was Dead to be a pure Vermont Rock and Roll record, fueled by extra sharp Cabot cheddar cheese and hot, grade-A fancy maple syrup poured over crisp white snow and served with a pickle and a cider donut. You sit down on the shitty concrete in the parking lot and you slurp it all up.” With some black coffee, delicious! Don’t miss the King Tuff tour dates listed below.
