Before forming the Brooklyn four-piece DIIV, founding member Z. Cole Smith had played with Beach Fossils, but after a US tour with the band he decided to strike out on his own. Returning to New York, the artist holed himself up in a painter’s studio in Bushwick without running water or AC, but with a window view of the L train. In lieu of creature comforts, Smith surrounded himself with books, music, and strange dreams, using his self-imposed hermeticism to craft his Captured Tracks debut, Oshin, which came out in June of last year. Today we have the new video for the track “Wait“, directed by Sandy Kim, and featuring all kinds of 16mm sexy playfulness, as well as live footage of the mop-topped, Mr. Cole Smith.
