New Music Video: Misfit Mod “Cars”

More from Misfit Mod this week with a new video for her track “Cars“, off her debut LP Islands & Islands, just out on the Brooklyn label Stars & Letters. London-based artist Sarah Kelleher began work on the album back in New Zealand in 2008, and she continued building and perfecting the tracks while living in Oxford, Amsterdam, and Berlin. Kelleher’s music is strikingly intimate, with her richly textured atmospheres and minimalist beats providing the perfect bed for her warm, narcotic voice. On “Cars” the artist’s woozy, mantra-like repetition of the line “Gotta make a move/ from the backseat of this car” takes on eery significance to a beat that sounds like flares lighting, as a heavily effected cymbal reverberates and pans around the audioscape. The video for the track is directed by New Zealand’s Ed Lust, who is part of the Christchurch collective Awkward Aesthetics, and it plays off of “Cars” sinister vibe.
