Pure X returns this year with their new LP Crawling Up the Stairs, due out May 14th on Acéphale Records. Some difficult times followed the recording of the band’s excellent 2011 LP Pleasure, with principal member Nate Grace suffering a severe leg injury and needing surgery without health insurance and with little money. While the experience would serve as a dark rite of passage for him during the recording of the band’s newest record, it seems to have also tempered members Jesse Jenkins and Austin Youngblood, steeling their sense of creative purpose in the best of ways. Witness the album’s first gently medicated single “Things In My Head”, which makes it’s way tentatively on Jesse Jenkins sweetly breaking voice and the sobering reminder, “We’re only here for a short time”!
