Portland’s Southerly celebrate 12 years with a limited edition 7″ single, free download, new music video, career-spanning playlist, and a rare hometown show! Southerly began as a solo recording project for Wisconsin native Krist Kreuger, and his 2004 debut LP Best Dressed and Expressionless was recorded on an Otari four track, chronicling three years of touring, travel, and living out of his van. Krueger would go on to relocate to Portland, OR, becoming involved in label management and booking, while recording three critically acclaimed albums of dark, lush pop: 2007’s Storyteller and the Gossip Columnist (Greyday Records), 2010’s Champion Of The Noisy Negativists EP (Self Group), and 2011’s Youth (Greyday Records). Krueger is the kind of artist that loves a challenge, and in a continuing effort to hone his craft he has participated in three Song-A-Week cycles, logging over forty weeks of songwriting, including twenty-two weeks for the Oregon Public Broadcasting Sessions. The result of this work is the seemingly effortless pop of “Desolation Low” (People In A Position To Know), with lyrical content that places him at the top of his class, and a musical score that builds gently before soaring off into towering walls of sound. For the single Krueger is joined on instruments by Eli Savage, and the duo have also produced the very cool, 16mm-style video for the song!
