San Francisco’s awesome micro-label and art press Mt. St. Mtn. is readying a debut, self-titled EP from the jangle pop quartet Cruel Summer. The female-led band began in 2011 and has Thea Chacamaty on vocals/guitar, Chani Hawthorne on bass/vocals, Sean Mosley on drums and Josh Yule on guitar. The band describes themselves as, “dreamy gazey noisey hazy wavey gravy”, and really, that get’s at many of Cruel Summer’s sonic elements. Chacamaty and Yule combine on guitars to create late 80’s/early 90’s-era dream pop, but before long the songs combust into walls of guitar with Chacamaty’s and Hawthornes vocals swimming strongly in the bracing oceans of sound! Looks like Mt. St. Mtn. is only doing 250 copies of this little gem, so you better keep your eyes peeled on their site to grab a copy via pre-order!
