Pure X have just released “Someone Else“, a second single from their forthcoming sophomore LP Crawling Up the Stairs, out May 14th via Acephale Records. “Someone Else” is further evidence the band has choosen a different approach for the new LP. While Pure X’s first record Pleasure was recorded in a more “live” context without over-dubbing, and was full of songs that burned the midnight oil watching slow moving storms of distorted and phasing guitar, Pure X has chosen a more conventional recording approach and a “cleaner” sound for the new album. “Someone Else” still finds the band in a crepuscular mood, but here guitar and vocals ring out cleanly with piercing emotional content. The result is still idiosyncratic, and the kind of haunting pop that can leave an aching bruise. Pure X is touring the Northwest now, and will hit the road again this May in support of Crawling Up the Stairs. Check out dates below.
