Autechre sure has been delving deeply into long form exploration for their recent endeavors. Whether playing 10 hour sets of live music via the internet on Mixlr earlier this month, or releasing their two hour plus 4xLP Exai on Warp Records, Autechre has seemingly tapped some infinite sonic reservoir where music bubbles up from it’s abstract source! While Exai isn’t so much dense as it presents a seemingly infinite urban nightscape, wide and long with drama and intrigue around every corner.

Looking at the marathon set-list from Autechre’s March 2nd webcast reveals just how passionately the duo is connected to electronic music in its myriad forms, as Rob Brown and Sean Booth mixed a seemingly endless stream of tracks that included Bassix, Coil, Afrika Bambaataa, Kraftwerk, Eno & Burn, Tangerine Dream, as well as a ton more on their intriguing journey through electronic music past and present.

This week Autechre provided a full stream of Exai via YouTube and it’s a must listen. While the duo long ago began perfecting the means by which they abstract and essentialize their art, this new record still echoes with the future shock that electronic music promises.
