Energy Gown‘s new self-released 7″ I Watch the Sun is out, and the band celebrated this weekend with quite the happening at The Observatory in Chicago…in fact, you had to be wearing a mask to get in! Released as a cassette, vinyl 7″, and digitally via Bandcamp, I Watch the Sun shatters a vial of bad vibes across three tracks of ear warping psychedelics. Recorded to tape by Eric Rasmussen at Observatory Studios, “Tow the Line”, “Diamond Bun”, and “Echo Tower” crackle and burn with plenty of analogue hiss before catching flame and rising on plumes of narcotic smoke. Energy Gown’s more improvisational live approach is well preserved on the recording, giving I Watch the Sun a loose, anything-could-happen vibe that well demonstrates the band’s embracing of the Now as it’s primary, creative ethos.
