Oakland four-piece Wax Idols have just released their newest long player Discipline & Desire, out on Slumberland Records. By the sounds of it, the band has begun to distance itself from 2011’s debut No Future by eschewing that album’s sunnier, post-punk meets goth-pop sound. As you can hear by streaming the entire album over at Pitchfork Advance, Wax Idols have begun to explore a darker, new wave synth sound with echo-laden vocals and swirling, dreamy guitars. Building on No Future‘s gift for anthemic, sing along hooks, Heather Fortune and Co. have created an album with fuller, albeit darker and more intense choruses and melodies. Have a listen to Wax Idols’ Discipline & Desire album sampler, and check out their upcoming tour dates below.
