Fans of Mac DeMarco are probably familiar with his pal Alex Calder, but for the rest of you it’s time to get up close and personal with the Edmonton musician. Calder’s videos are solipsistic and insular (see “Light Leave Your Eyes“”, for instance) in the way a YouTube webcam video can be, by allowing us access to a personally publishable video medium to share our mostly unedited thoughts, feelings, and experiences with. Just like a Chris Crocker video invites viewers to get more personal than they might be comfortable with, in the video for “Fatal Delay” directed by Jason Harvey, Calder offers himself up for intimate, nose picking display…with the result being you quickly learn who you’re friends are. And that’s a good thing! Don’t like seeing all the good, bad, and ugly Alex has to show, well you probably wouldn’t be a very good friend anyways…After the video give a listen to Calder’s excellent 7-song EP Time, out now on Captured Tracks.
