SQÃœRL “Pink Dust”

SQÃœRL are an “enthusiastically marginal rock band” featuring Jim Jarmusch on guitar, Carter Logan on drums, and multi-instrumentalist/producer Shane Stoneback. The trio will release a debut EP via ATP Recordings on May 21st, but the project began when Jarmusch and Logan teamed up with Stoneback to record some tracks for Jarmusch’s 2009 film The Limits of Control.

Set in Spain and following the escapades of a strange loner (Isaach de Bankolé), the tracks captured Spain’s rural landscapes with slow burning, psych-tinged rock. The trio continued recording after finishing the film’s music, and have renamed themselves SQÃœRL while proclaiming their love for, “drums & broken guitars, cassette recorders, loops, feedback, sad country songs, molten stoner core, chopped & screwed hip-hop, and imaginary movie scores”.

Pink Dust” uses an oddball sample of a woman describing the “this and that” workings of a recording machine, before leveling an earful of richly distorted guitar feedback for the slow motion crestings of a burned-out melody drone! Look for the limited edition 12″ EP to be released on hand-numbered picture discs packaged with an art postcard taken from Luc Sante‘s Folk Photography book (release also includes a code for complimentary Digital Download).
