Jon Dwyer‘s prolific Thee Oh Sees project returned this month with the LP Floating Coffin, out now on Castle Face Records– the label he runs with Brian Lee Hughes and Matt Jones. Since adding Brigid Dawson on vocals, Thee Oh Sees have really found the sweet spot in a high octane, 60’s fueled brand of garage rock, with Dwyer’s years of experience playing in Pink & Brown, as well as the Coachwhips bringing a combustible punk energy to the band’s psych-infused sonics. Floating Coffin is full of Dwyer’s diabolical humor and “Toe Cutter-Thumb Buster” is no exception, so it’s highly appropriate that we have this darkly humored take on the song directed by John Strong. When one killer’s murderous escapades spiral out of control, he ends up driving headlong into another’s for a grimly comic, self-reflexive moment.
