Out Now: Lansing-Dreiden “Metal On A Gun”

The fine folks over at Mexican Summer have remastered and repackaged all three of Lansing-Dreiden‘s albums, and pressed them for a first ever vinyl release! The NY-based art collective was originally founded from obscure origins in Miami, FL, and rather than calling themselves a band Lansing-Dreiden told the Seattle Weekly in February of 2005 that they were, “a company that sees no distinction between art and commerce.” Indeed, their varied output included video and sculpture, as well as the literary journal Death Notice, but Lansing-Dreiden would become best known for their elegant, meticulously produced pop. Lansing-Dreiden originally self-released their stellar debut The Incomplete Triangle in 2003, as well as their follow-up EP A Sectioned Beam in 2004, and the records would go on to be reissued that same year by Kemado Records, Mexican Summer’s founding label. The company would increase their musical production with 2006’s The Dividing Island, as well as 2008’s self-released EP Tri, so it’s high time to review their work! Not only remastered but expanded upon, look for the reissue of The Incomplete Triangle to include some formerly unheard ambient tracks, and A Sectioned Beam will contain a previously unreleased, fifteen minute song called “Seaside“. Check out “Metal On A Gun“, a track that definitely shines with a freshened light for the remaster, but also points out the fine line this remastering needs to walk in seeking to preserve the original’s unique production.
