New Track: Fuck Buttons “The Red Wing”

Fuck Buttons have announced that their third studio album Slow Focus will be released July 23rd via ATP Recordings. Today we can listen in on what Andrew Hung and Benjamin John Power are cooking up via an edited version of their track “The Red Wing“, which will be released in-full digitally and as a limited-edition 12” on gold vinyl June 25th. In talking about the track, Benjamin John Power explains, ““The Red Wing” has a sense of fear and of loneliness, as if deserted in an abandoned city. The feeling of malevolence is something we hadn’t really explored in our music prior to this.” Dense, throbbing bass creates a sort of undertow, here, dropping the listener down the k-hole of an extended break, as the duo slows down their Jungle beats to more of a head-nodding crawl. The atmosphere is haunted, and it’s not long before the burned out zombies of Raves Past emerge, titillated by the promise of android party tones and the chance to gyrate their charred corpses.
Slow Focus is the first album fully produced by the band, and it follows the duo’s central tenet that both members must be together in the same room when writing their music. In describing the album title’s significance, Power explaines, “It almost feels like the moment your eyes take to readjust when waking, and realizing you’re in a very unusual and not a particularly welcoming place. We like to think that we create our own new landscapes, and with this it’s a very alien one.” Fuck Buttons will play the Primavera Sound Fest in Porto, Portugal tomorrow night, as well as the Glastonbury Fest in the UK later in June, and you can check out more summer dates here…
