Seems like you can always expect the heaviest sort of heavy from St. Paul MN’s deranged art punk outfit Condominium. The 3-piece formed in 2007 out of the ashes of the Minneapolis band Formaldehyde Junkies, and it also shared members with the local hardcore bands Question and Pandemonium. After several out-of-print 7″s, and the self-released LP Warm Home, the band is getting set to release the three song EP Carl, via Sub Pop on May 21st. “Carl” is also the B-side, and it gets right to business by laying down a riveting drum beat, loose yet somehow impeccably tight as it bashes around on the skins, before dropping an ultra-dumbed down bass-line that hammers a single rhythmic note, making for quite the foreboding opening. When vocals arrive a full-on atmosphere of the demented is unleashed, augmented by the guitar radiating it’s slowly strangulating tones of terror. I believe, in the old days, they would have called this music pigfuck. Still sounds like an apt descriptor to me! Condominium will head out for a mostly West Coast tour this coming June.
