Unless you’ve been sleeping under a rock, you’ve probably heard that Sub Pop turned 25 this year, and the now ubiquitous label celebrated by releasing Sub Pop 1000. While at first gander it might’ve appeared like this would be some stale rehash compilation, threatening to dig up tracks from Combustible Edison, Heather Duby, and The Murder City Devils, it was instead a return to early form for Sub Pop. Like the first installment of this now 25 year old series, Sub Pop 100, the newest is a “greatest hits” compilation of current artists the label is crushing on, put out on vinyl for the sheer f**k of it, in an unabashed attempt to make a little coin! That’s just the Sub Pop way…Sub Pop 1000 included this killer cut from Ed Schrader’s Music Beat, “Radio Eyes“, and now we have Philip Leaman and Zoie Omega‘s outstanding video for the track. Using very inventive but simple means, they make the most of iconic objects like a long meeting room table, apples, loaves of bread, hands, and chess sets, imbuing them with a little extra significance to tell their slightly creepy, dream-like tale of descent. Stop motion animation, cartoon birds, and dancing feet also included!
