The National will release their fifth LP Trouble Will Find Me on May 20/21st via 4AD. Initial sketches for the songs were laid down last year by guitarist Aaron Dessner. Having returned from an extended tour for the band’s 2010 LP High Violet, and celebrating life with his new-born daughter, Dessner found himself suffering through many a sleepless night. Retiring to the studio in his backyard, song fragments would be laid down in this sleep-deprived state. Singer Matt Berninger claims to have connected immediately to this new material, telling 4AD, “He’d be so tired while he was playing his guitar and working on ideas that he wouldn’t intellectualize anything.” The results are striking, and immediately apparent on this instant hit, “Sea of Love“. The video for the track is directed by Sophia Peer, and is an homage to the mid-90’s Russian video below, capturing it’s look down to the littlest details!
