Toronto’s Still Life Still deliver some exalted pop on their new track “Burial Suit“, which will be on the band’s August 20th LP Mourning Trance, due out on Arts & Crafts. According to singer Brendan Saarinen this track was written in the dead of winter, after a year of demoing and scraping songs. Acting as a real starting point for the new record, Saarinen says of the track, “It’s about breaking rituals and routines; how love can take you to strange, sometimes messed up places”. Recorded in Toronto by Alex Bonefant (Metz, Crystal Castles), the track has a real sonic bite, and yet it could still be the radio friendly, summer jam of the year…The track is also accompanied by this amazing video, comprised of old super-8 and 16mm films from band member Aaron Romaniuk‘s families’ collection. Shot by his grandmother and grandfather between 1960 and 1970, he explains, “This video is a glimpse into my family’s memories: birthdays, travels, and everyday life growing up in the west end of Toronto.” Through some amazing editing, the video captures some really magic moments. Often they are just a small gesture-a woman dancing with her goofy cousins glances non-challantly over her shoulder to see if the camera’s watching, or Uncle So-and-So gets caught drinking a little too long from the bottle of wine-but it’s in these simple moments, with all their shared human qualities, that the video delivers an iconic impact, both sentimental and emotive! Still Life Still kick off a handful of live dates tonight in Toronto. Check them out after the video.
