David Lynch & Lykke Li “I’m Waiting Here”

David Lynch will release his second solo LP The Big Dream on July 16th via Sacred Bones Records. Recorded over several months at Lynch’s Asymmetrical Studio, on The Big Dream the artist again worked with Dean Hurley, the engineer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist with whom he collaborated for 2011’s solo debut Crazy Clown Time (Sunday Best Recordings). Lynch has written and performed the majority of the tracks on the new album, though the record also includes a cover of Bob Dylan’s “The Ballad of Hollis Brown“, as well as this collaboration with the Swedish performer Lykke Li for the bonus track “I’m Waiting Here“.

Sounding like it could be the title cut for a new, noir-thriller from the auteur, “I’m Waiting Here” casts a highly addictive spell. Lynch’s dreamy, slow motion blues provide a perfect cinematic backdrop for Li’s captivating and narcotic vocals here. In talking about the upcoming record, Lynch describes its sound as “modern blues.” Describing the writing process, he explains:

“Most of the songs start out as a type of blues jam and then we go sideways from there. What comes out is a hybrid, modernized form of low-down blues.”

Pick up the vinyl edition of The Big Dream, and the double LP will include a bonus 7″ of “I’m Waiting Here” with an etching hand-inscribed by Lynch on the B-side!
