As the voiceover in Lilacs & Champagne‘s “Sensations” track warns us, “Night is the worst time for freak outs, for the terror of a bad trip on drugs”, but for Alex Hall and Emil Amos the news might have come a bit too late! Hall and Amos have explored the many-varied permutations of psych music in projects like Grails and Holy Sons, and for their Lilacs & Champagne project they adopt a sample-based approach to explore a heavily dosed collage of music that their label, Mexican Summer, describes as, “…something like the sound of Nurse with Wound collaborating with J-Dilla.” Now that’s a hook-up I could get with! “Sensations” is off the band’s self-titled 2012 release out now on Mexican Summer, but Emil Amos has just edited this new video for the track using snippets of 60’s era soft-core porn, surf films, etc., composited with all kinds of psychedelic detritus in nuclear neons!
