Today The xx released a new video for the track “Fiction“, off last year’s LP Coexist (Young Turks). Young Replicant returns to direct in this Pulse Films produced video. Using a highly stylized approach with well-crafted shot composition and darkly cast monochromatics, he follows the song’s lead using an economy of well-parsed means to get
maximum emotive results. “Fiction” finds Oliver Sim’s mind playing tricks on him in his lover’s absence, and the director’s choice of symbols to depict this mental state, a full moon, reflecting pools, parrot, and a maze, cast the perfect lunar pallor over the whole affair…For those of you in the UK, look for The xx to play Night+Day at the London Hatfield House Saturday, June 22nd.
