Holograms return September 3rd with their new LP Forever, due out on Captured Tracks! Today the label posted “Meditations“, the second single from the band’s upcoming album, and it’s another gut-punch of existential post-punk. The Swedish quartet, featuring Andreas Lagerström on vocals, Anton Strandberg on drums, and the brothers Anton and Filip Spetze on guitar and synth, sought a bigger, fuller sound for their second record, something that approached a “mass…procession or eulogy”. This is apparent pretty immediately on “Meditations” when Strandberg counts off the opening beats on his drum sticks, and we’re allowed to hear the size of the room, before the band jumps in on an angular, anxious rush. As usual, Lagerström’s vocals are spot on, running the gambit from menacingly droll to frantic in their search for release, as the band delivers a kind of punk that sounds completely reminiscent, and yet, fresh, and totally necessary!
