Grumbling Fur takes Blade Runner’s Roy Batty as their inspiration here, using lines from Batty’s final speech to Deckard as a space-age mantra. Daniel O’Sullivan and Alexander Tucker collage a host of sounds including hand claps, chimes and raga-like drones while joining in repetitive chorus to recite the “I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe…” lines! The UK duo have extensive experience on the more experimental side of the musical spectrum with O’Sullivan playing in Guapo and Ulver, as well as Aethenor with Stephen O’Malley, and Tucker playing in imbogodom. On “The Ballad of Roy Batty” they weave an occult musical spell that has a vaguely pastoral feel, and it’s echoed in the video for the track with composited images of the duo against verdant, forested backgrounds. Grumbling Fur’s newest LP Glynnaestra will be out July 23rd on Thrill Jockey.
