The dance music archivist and Still Music Chicago label owner Jerome Derradji has curated an awesome new compilation, Kill Yourself Dancing: The Story of Sunset Record Inc. Chicago 1985-89. While Derradji’s past compilations, 122 BPM: The Birth Of House Music, and In The Dark: The Soul Of Detroit & The American Boogie Down explored broader aspects of the Chicago and Detroit dance scene, this newest compilation will focus on the lesser known underground House label Sunset Records Inc. Formerly known as Sunset Mobile Disco, the label was initially owned by the brothers Alex and Robert Rojo, but they eventually joined forces with up-and-coming producers Matt Warren, Miguel Garcia (Michaelangelo) and Ralphi Rosario to form Sunset Records, as a way to release the trio’s prolific, and spot-on productions. Plugged in to the moment Warren, Garcia, and Rosario brought together an intriguing nexus of influences, and their skilled productions held international appeal and influence. Look for Kill Yourself Dancing to come out September 17th on Still Music. The 2xLP will include remastered, rare, and unreleased tracks, as well as lost pictures and artifacts presented via a gatefold edition, and in a 23-page booklet for the 2xCD. Today, we check out the track “Try Try Again (House Mix)”, which features vocals from the Illinois brother and sister duo Kajsa, as well as the previously released White Knight track, “Acid Dub“…
