Since leaving Eternal Tapestry in 2012, the Portland psych artist Dewey Mahood has concentrated more closely on his project Plankton Wat, and we can expect his new LP Drifter’s Temple to come out September 17th on Thrill Jockey. Following a less improvisational approach for the new record, Mahood has developed the ten tracks thru rehearsal and live performance, before recording them to four-track at home. On Drifter’s Temple Mahood plays lap steel, 6 and 12 string guitars, bass, organ, and synth, and he is joined by the artists Dustin Dybvig (Horse Feathers & Edibles), Matt McDowell (Sagas) and John Rau (Royal Baths & Edibles). “Empire Mines” will be the fifth track on the album, and it glows with a healing dose of Northern California sunshine, making it’s way on nimble, finger-picking, and lush strumming, before stumbling upon huge, distorted slabs of haunting guitar somewhere high in the mountains!
