Animal Collective team up with director Jack Kubizne in this new video for “Monkey Riches“, off the band’s 2012 LP Centipede Hz, out now on Domino. Like the track’s multi-faceted musical approach, Kubizne has created a very intriguing mix of live action, animation, and CGI for this mystical tale. Using dense, filmic images via rich detailed sets and well-conceived characters, Kubizne has an eye for drama, and here he tells the story of a young couple who has gone to meet the wise-man in search of knowledge. Speaking with Kevin Holmes over at The Creators Project, Kubizne explained, “…the video posits the fact that if you don’t learn from those that came before you or if you treat them as a simple amusement, a quaint relic from the past, you’re going to be in a lot of shit. It has nothing to do with nostalgia, just taking what you need in terms of values and leaving what you don’t. You don’t keep old stuff if it isn’t worth keeping or if it’s bad for people.” Well said!
