Seams is the UK producer James Welch, who currently resides in Berlin, and the electronic artist will release his new LP Quarters on September 16th via Full Time Hobby. “Rilo” finds him crafting sparse, propulsive techno, for a track that strips back melody while fore-fronting sleek rhythms that suggest dials spinning and shutters expanding, while still maintaining the track’s pulsating, sensual quality! Welch reports that he moved four times during the recording of the LP, and he used these different environments to shape the record’s sound. He explains, “I recorded how things sounded when played back in my room, so the reverbs used are the reverbs of the rooms I worked in.” The video for “Rilo” is directed by the photographer and filmmaker Jonathan Pound, and it features a montage of animating circles, throbbing molecular life, and other visual oddities that seem the perfect compliment for Welch’s rhythmically evolving erotics…
