Lookin’ for something juicy to sink your sonic fangs into this weekend…then, may we suggest Odonis Odonis? The Toronto three-piece dubs their music “industrial surfgaze”, or, for their recent EP Better (Buzz Records), “industrial punkgaze”, which we mention because they are, actually, quite apt descriptors. Singer/guitarist Dean Tzenos initially began working the project on his own in Vancouver, recording hard drives of material from home before adding members Denholm Whale on bass, and Jarod Gibson on drums. While much of the band’s early output, such as 2011’s Hollandaze LP (Buzz/Fat Cat), arose from these initial recording sessions, the band’s 2013 EP Better found the trio working together to write material, and the resulting five songs unleash wild and aggressive punk energies, while maintaining the band’s industrial edge and psychedelic, shoegaze underpinnings. This Odonis Odonis audio sampler brings together some “best of the best” from the band, including two stand out tracks from Better, several cuts from Hollandaze, and the earlier releases “Mr. Smith” and “Wipeout Beat“. If you live in Brooklyn or Montreal, you just might be lucky enough to catch Odonis Odonis live! Scroll down for your dates…
