New Track: The Body “To Attempt Openness”

Few have the guts to descend into the pits of hell like The Body! On October 15th, the duo of guitarist/vocalist Chip King and drummer Lee Buford will return from their most recent chthonic journeys to reveal their newest grim artifact, the mega-gothic Christs, Redeemers LP (Thrill Jockey). Recorded at Machines With Magnets in Pawtucket, RI, on the new album The Body can be heard collaborating with the noise musician Work/Death, and Ryan Seaton of Callers, as well as the Assembly of Light Choir, on track above, “To Attempt Openness“. Like a sonic tour of a cemetery of horrors, King and Buford employ multiple strategies from the Grimoire of Infernal Metal on this cut. Passing thru an initial, insect-like ambience, “To Attempt Openness” emerges into it’s main, sepurchal chamber for something that eventually sounds like Unsane jamming in slow motion with Darkthrone, before devolving thru tortured realms of noise into thick, plodding fields of Doom, and finally delivering your remains, eternally, to the Garden of Deadly Mists! You can catch the horror of The Body live in October, if you live in Portland or Chicago…
