Loads of fried electronics and dub dregs on ARU‘s debut LP DPV3.5, due out October 22nd on Captcha Records. Rumor has it the Dubuque noise-smith set his astral projections for destination:Jamaica, but it seems our Stoned Lion might have landed a plane or two beyond on some glitch-rigged future incarnation of the island. Sighting Brian Eno and trumpeter Jon Hassell‘s 1980 release Fourth World, Vol. 1: Possible Musics, as well as Jamaican dub studio techniques as an influence, on this 19 track long-player ARU welds arks of noise from a seemingly endless array of broken down beats and electronic detritus. Like Eno and Hassell’s work before, ARU does use heavily processed instrumentation here, mostly drum machine and sequencer, it seems, to achieve other worldly sounds that suggest some serious continental drift; however DPV3.5 (Dub Plate volume 3.5) seems to have drifted far into a dystopian future where techno pirates rule the toxic air waves from recycled and jerry-rigged satellites. The ultra-cosmic album art for the LP was done by the amazing Brazilian artist Bruno Borges, who produces visuals under the name Penebranca, as well as making music as Camel Heads. Look for Camel Heads Anoluz LP to also come out on October 22nd via Captcha!
