You can hold An Object in you’re hand, you can listen to An Object, and you can even contemplate An Object, and No Age hopes you’ll do all that and more with their most recent LP release, out now on Sub Pop. Dean Spunt and Randy Randall have immersed themselves in every level of creation for their new record, even working with the artist Brian Roettinger to design the packaging, as well as participating in it’s construction and final assembly. This desire to have their hands on all portions of the production seems to be hard wired into the DNA of the work, producing tracks with physical and gritty sonic structures, while evidence of their joyful deconstruction lies about everywhere…some still in pieces and others reassembled into odd new forms. In addition, the album’s title, and some of the lyrical content point towards the band’s philosophical preoccupation with form and order, and the ways in which these break down, mutate and reform. With that, social structures are implicated, and the process by which individuals and societies enact change becomes necessarily part of the band’s inquiry. Because of that “political” concern, for me, the most powerful tracks on An Object seem to be the ones rooted in the dynamics of hardcore, like the protest track “No Ground“, the chest pumping “C’mon, Stimmung“, the more experimental monochromatic’s of “Defector/ed“, or the misanthropic anthem “Circling With Dizzy“. You can stream An Object in it’s entirety, below. In addition, we’ve included the track listing for the record, as well as No Age’s upcoming live dates in Europe.
