New Photos: Body/Head Live in Atlanta

649

Today we have photos of Kim Gordon and Bill Nace’s new band Body/Head. Since the break up of Sonic Youth, Gordon has been focusing her attentions on Body/Head, an improvisational guitar/noise duo she started with fellow Massachsetts artist Bill Nace. On a recent tour stop in Atlanta to support their debut LP Coming Apart, out now on Matador, Live Eye snapped up the photos below. On this night, the twosome created, blurred, and erased the lines between improv and structure with a minimal use of sound and film. The songs started in a slow, claustrophobic dirge of monotone lyrics, swirling guitars, and slow-motion images, eventually expanding in both mood and space as if consciously looking for a way out of the structured walls they’d built up in the first half of a song. The effect was one of artists creating, exploring ideas, and throwing out avenues as quickly as they picked up new ones. It was a Master Class in improv, emotion, and free-form music! After checking out the photos, we’ve included a YouTube playlist of the videos Richard Kern completed for Coming Apart. Also, you can have a look at Body/Head’s upcoming European tour dates below…
