Gang Gang Dance’s Brian DeGraw is finishing up a solo LP called SUM/ONE, due out December 3rd in the US via 4AD, and today we check out the upcoming record with the new track “Bricks“. Creating under the moniker bEEdEEgEE, in many ways the new album is DeGraw’s first solo work, though he also created a soundtrack for the film Sonic the Warhol by Oliver Payne and Nick Relph. In talking about the new record with the folks at FACT, DeGraw explained,
“None of the record started as Gang Gang Dance sketches, it was all made on my own time and in a space of my brain that was completely isolated from GGD…I used a lot of it as an opportunity to try things that were less natural to me…new approaches that I thought I could benefit from exploring.”
On the track “Bricks”, DeGraw uses his experience as a DJ to mix styles into a cohesive if not disorienting whole, making a deep synth cut that bristles with strange energy. Not quite alien, but instead of a different elemental order, “Bricks” comes to life before your eyes revealing itself as a massive, though mostly beneficent organic life-form. Look for bEEdEEgEE to perform live in November and December, many dates with Animal Collective, so check them out below.
