Still waiting desperately for the follow-up to HTRK‘s brilliant 2011 LP Work (work, work) (Ghostly International) so a remix of “Poison” by the legendary Mika Vainio is more than a welcome respite! The Finnish producer came up in the ’80s playing in noise and industrial bands, before forming the experimental, electronic duo Pan Sonic with Ilpo Väisänen in the early ’90s. Vainio had met HTRK’s co-founder Sean Stewart before he passed away in March of 2010, so this remix is a product of that relationship.
For “Poison,” Vainio pulls all of the stuffing out the track as he stretches it to nearly twice its original length. Removing the original version’s fuzzed out 4/4 beat, Vainio opts instead for halting scatter shots of simmering rhythm and menacing ambience before reducing singer Jonnine Standish‘s vocals about dominance and submission into narcotic slurs of sleep talk!
The Ghostly International 10″ will be limited to only 350 copies, shipping in a resealable plastic mylar sleeve, and containing a reworked version of the track “Love Triangle” on the b-side. HTRK will play several live dates in November, so here they are…
