Widowspeak will release their Swamps EP October 29th on Captured Tracks, and today we have another preview of the work with their new single “Calico“. On the cut, Molly Hamilton and Robert Earl Thomas wind spooky and crepuscular guitar lines around each other creating a haunted air for Hamilton’s dusky vocals. While the track begins with only a sparse drum beat to mark each unfolding measure, by the song’s end elegant restrained drumming accentuates the whole affair with brushed beats and silver cymbal splashes. Lyrically, Hamilton seems to use “calico” as a memory totem to conjure up a time when “the house was a good one”, and while she casts an almost irresistible spell of nostalgia, the music never quite gives in! The band will kick off their US tour today, so check the tour dates below.
