Julia Holter has a new video for her track “Horns Surrounding Me“, which is off the artist’s most recent LP Loud City Song, out now on Domino. Directed by Angus Borsos, and based on a concept by Nite Jewel’s Ramona Gonzalez, the video stars Ms. Holter and Michael Jenkins in a surreal maze of cryptic images. Borsos, and DP Bobby Shore use a striking filmic sense and eye for composition to cast a dream-like tale that seems to defy logic and explanation at every turn.
When Holter was recently asked in an interview with Erin Lyndal Martin of The Quietus, as to what elements seem constant in her music, she replied: “I love working with the voice, I love mystery, I love creating atmosphere.” All those elements are strongly present on “Horns Surrounding Me”, and Holter’s background in formal composition imbues the track with an orchestral sense for movement and space, creating complex, cinemagraphic atmospheres for her poetic vocal delivery.
