The NY electronic duo Blondes put out their Swisher LP via RVNG Intl. this year, and today they released a video for “Andrew“, one of the center-pieces of the record. Directed by the band’s Sam Haar and Zach Steinman, the video uses a series of highly abstracted visual planes, that seem to be digitally constructed, on which to reflect colorfully flashing lights and images. Thematically, the video seems interested in the concepts of surface, simulation, and what reflection might mean as a source of perspective. The twisted, fractured, and curved, hi-gloss surfaces we see, seem to be computer generated, and they are made to reflect the simulated light shows of a club atmosphere, with only a few images visible, like what appears to be reflections of a giant festival crowd, or an ecstatic female reveler with braceleted arms up-raised, and finally, to close, the silvery, humanoid visage of an android. “Andrew” is guaranteed to deliver deep, extended states of dance consciousness, and visually it’s designer drug twisted hall of mirrors, and flashing lights, are sure to alter your expanding perspectives!
