New Video: Daughn Gibson “Phantom Rider”

Daughn Gibson‘s second album Me Moan is his debut for Sub Pop, and this weekend the musician and vocalist released a new video for his noir track, “Phantom Rider“. Gibson was born in Nazareth, PA, but he now resides in the college town of Carlisle, PA, and he cut his teeth playing drums for a bunch of years in the band Pearls & Brass, while also possessing an extensive resume of odd jobs that include driving a truck, packing boxes, and working as cashier at an adult bookstore. In a seductive baritone, Gibson spins dark American tales, which he couples with richly musical, but haunted soundtracks that feature electronic beats, live drums, as well as instruments like pedal steel, piano, horns, bagpipe, and organ. “Phantom Rider” slithers in with a malignant and fungal kind of blues, and with it’s whip sharp beats, and syrupy, warped vocals, it’s a weird form of sonic hybrid you won’t be able to untangle your ears from. The video for the track is directed by the visual artist Ferry Gouw, and it features black shadowed footage of the singer, composited with phantom-like apparitions, making Mr. Gibson into quite a frightening proposition!
