The American composer, musician and sound artist Duane Pitre released his amazing Feel Free LP via Important Records last year to much critical acclaim, and today the label made available this very cool clip from Pitre’s live performance of the piece in London at Cafe OTO. Composed for a sextet of electronic and acoustic instruments, Pitre’s Feel Free allows for his players to interact as they see fit with random, computer generated guitar harmonics, creating a sonic interface that is renewed with each performance. Following the release of the record last year, Pitre travelled to Europe for a series of performances, choosing to play with several English musicians who’d never played the composition before, as well as the Feel Free veteran, Jesse Sparhawk on harp. This live version also included Jennifer Allum on violin, Oliver Barrett on cello, James Blackshaw on hammered dulcimer, Guillaume Viltard on contrabass, as well as Duane Pitre’s contributions on electronics and guitar. The live video of Feel Free contains the same real-time visuals that were presented in conjunction with the show by Shaun Crook.
