Polvo‘s new Siberia LP, out now on Merge, is the follow-up to the band’s 2009 release In Prism, and the new record has a looser, nothing-to-loose feel, that actually makes it sound like one of the band’s most confident and accomplished efforts yet. Singer and guitarist Ash Bowie explains the difference between the two albums this way, “Preparing for In Prism, we labored over that material pretty intensively. A lot of the songs on this album were not rehearsed much at all. I’d like to think this album has a few more adventurous moments.” “Light, Raking” is a great example, and it finds Polvo creating perfect indie pop, though still melded with the band’s skewed sonic-sense, which is undoubtedly wired deeply into their DNA. The video for this track was directed and animated by Jason Sievers, and it features a ball of yarn as a very crafty and entertaining protagonist.
