Thee Dang Dangs self-released their awesome debut full-length For the People this fall, and it’s full of the kind of raw and rugged garage gems that make this Denver four-piece a band to really get excited about! The group formed in mid-2012 after singer/guitarist Rebecca Williams casually met fellow guitarist Ray Koren at a local pub, and after hearing each’s respective band, the two joined forces forming Thee Dang Dangs, with Williams as vocalist to front the endeavor. During their short but productive beginnings Thee Dang Dangs have filled out into a four-piece, recorded their Stone Coast EP, as well as this new full-length, while also touring the East coast. For the People was recorded mostly live, with minimal overdubs, during a four day period at Colorado Sound Shed by Mancub’s Alex Anderson. The tracks here really shine on the brilliance of Rebecca Williams vocals, as well as the rapport she has with fellow guitarist Ray Koren as they trade lead and rhythm roles; and the two achieve bright, vintage tones using, as Koren informs us, “fender tube amps and holy grail reverb”. For the People is a rough and ready demonstration of where this young band is at presently, and it finds them still discovering themselves creatively, in all the best ways, while being full of haunting and powerful tracks that you can return to again and again! The band is currently recording new material this winter, and look to have an EP in the spring, as well as a follow-up LP in the summer. If you’re living in or around Denver, you can catch Thee Dang Dangs live on December 20th at Bar Bar.
While you’re at it, don’t miss the fuzzy eye joys of “Pieces of You”…
