HTRK has a new track entitled “Give It Up” off their upcoming LP Psychic 9-5 Club due out March 31st on Ghostly International. While 2011’s gorgeously dark and glacially minimal LP Work (Work Work) was haunted by the loss of their bandmate Sean Stewart, who died half way thru it’s recording, Jonnine Standish and Nigel Yang return on Psychic 9-5 Club with a brave work that, though still stark in that HTRK way, pulses with real human blood.
The duo recorded the album in New Mexico at Blazer Sound Studios with Excepter’s Nathan Corbin who also directed their excellent video for the track “Bendin” off Work (Work Work). Standish and Yang continued to tweak the recordings back in Australia at the begging of 2013, before finishing the record in New York this summer. “Give it Up” is an excellent example of the duo’s new efforts, and while it retains Yang’s minimal, dub-influenced leanings, as well as Jonnine Standish’s narcoleptic and androgynous drawl, the music now seems to have a more immediate effect! Can’t wait to hear more from this record!!
