Holograms‘ stellar 2013 LP Forever, out now on Captured Tracks, will definitely be on our list of favorite records for the year, and today the Swedish four-piece released a new video for their track “Luminous“. The band continues to tap and channel, thru whatever means are readily at hand, the kind of desperation and longing that’s always been at the heart of punk music. While Holograms sought a bigger and fuller sound than what could be heard on their self-titled 2012 debut for the label, the band’s music still seems to teeter dangerously close to the edge, making for an exihlerating ride. “Luminous” starts with Filip Spetze‘s wildly phasing synth tone, and that soon builds into an anxious, warped line, before locking step with his brother Anton‘s wiry guitar, for some tight-knit turns around the mosh circle. Meanwhile, drums and bass pummel away at double time, as vocalist Andreas Lagerström turns in an impassioned and abandoned performance that travels a tight rope between success and failure, before letting loose into a rousing close. The video for “Luminous” culls together intimate footage of the band, presenting it in a straight-forward and unadorned way, providing a glimpse of Holograms in their natural setting.
