Watch Now: Halo Benders “Don’t Touch My Bikini”

Today, K Records provided this gentle reminder of just how much Halo Benders ruled by posting to their YouTube channel this video for “Don’t Touch My Bikini“, off the band’s 1994 classic LP God Don’t Make No Junk. Halo Benders brought together Calvin Johnson of Beat Happening with Doug Martsch of Built to Spill, and God Don’t Make No Junk was recorded at Johnson’s Dub Narcotic Studio, which, at that time, was still in the early stages of being assembled in his basement. Laid down over a four day period, the two were also joined by Martsch’s former bandmates Wayne Flower and Ralph Youtz on drums and electric bass, and the results were mixed by Steve Fisk. On “Don’t Touch My Bikini”, the band shows off their blissfully care less ways, pogoing spastically about on Martsch’s mindless riff, as Johnson trades off-the-wall one liners against a disorienting, alternate vocal track. The video features some classic, live Halo Benders’ footage, running alongside a budding 8mm love story, Olympia-style!
