Lee Bannon‘s killer debut, the Alternate/Endings LP, came out on January 13th via Ninja Tune, and this week the label posted all 12 tracks of this heady and bass-deep sonic fare! Six months in the making, Alternate/Endings is steeped in the artist’s long standing interest in jungle, darkcore, and drum & bass, and on it Bannon’s saturated and ever-active creative urges are presented with cohesive, and singular force! The record finds the Sacramento raised producer and beat-maker joined by Mars Volta bassist Juan Alderete, who provides some truly punishing low-end, and this, combined with Bannon’s razor sharp, speeding beats, forms the dark underpinning for these wicked tracks. Fleshed out with sunless melodies of urban blight and Bannon’s compulsive field recordings, which he uses to add texture and space to his music, the young producer is helping to write a gritty and tenebrous new chapter in the ever mutating permutations of electronic music.
